I've been a graphic designer for seven years. Book covers, packaging, identity work, illustration, interpretive panels and signage. I'm also a photographer. Portraits, events, and whatever other direction I'm pointed; occasionally with the same clients I'm designing for.
I grew up in New York City, surrounded by theater, museums, light direction, architecture, events, fashion, graffiti, and signs everywhere. It changed how I look at things; what I notice, what stands out, what affects our perception. Growing up, I was drawn to Edward Gorey, Yayoi Kusama, Thomas Cole, and Brett Helquist - obsessive linework, big luminous landscapes, and an inclination towards the unexpected.
The best part of this work is the moment that arrives fully formed out of nowhere, the feeling of "oh damn". Everything after that is chasing it down and getting it right. The kerning nobody thinks they notice, the logo that has to work at business card size and on a billboard, the color you didn't expect.
